Operation Dynamo to the Rescue!
I had a wonderful morning down at Ramsgate Tunnels yesterday for the grand opening ceremony of Ramsgate’s newest museum and education centre. With my Ramsgate Town Team hat on, I have been working with Mike Samson of York Street Gallery who has painted a wonderful mural of Ramsgate Harbour circa, 1940 down in the new Education Centre. I enlisted the help of six of our local junior schools and they have all drawn pictures of over sixty of the original ‘Little Ships’ that will be gracing our harbour this week in time for the 75th Anniversary of Operation Dynamo of which Ramsgate and it’s residents played a huge part in. Mike and i had the enviable job of placing each of the children’s boats on to his mural this week and I am sure you’ll agree, they look fantastic!
The new museum and Education Centre has acquired stacks of memorabilia from WWII and tells the story of wartime Thanet, their exhibits will continue to change over the ensuing months so it will always be worth paying a visit when you are visiting Ramsgate. And it’s free! Donations are graciously accepted of course as it is all run by volunteers. If you want to find out more about Operation Dynamo and the forthcoming celebrations, click on the link.
