A Bit of Spring Cleaning!

A Bit of Spring Cleaning!

Well we've been very lucky with the weather here in Ramsgate this March with balmy temperatures last weekend reaching almost 20 degrees!  It actually felt warmer when I helped out with a voluntary clean up at Winterstoke Gardens last Sunday. Organised by Friends of Ramsgate Seafront, several of us got together and spent four hours cleaning, weeding and sweeping these Grade II listed structures whilst people descended the steps to enjoy a sunny day on the seafront.  The steps, gardens and sun shelter were built in the 1920s, commissioned by Dame Janet Stancombe Wells in memory of her adoptive uncle Sir Henry Wills (who left his fortune made in the tobacco industry to his niece) and as you can see if you scroll down these 'Then and Now' photos, they are in need of some love and care. We have been trying to think of ways to resurrect this area, particularly the fountains and sun shelter - don't you think it would make a lovely outdoor theatre?  One of my 'likers' on facebook suggested Shakespeare productions - Now wouldn't that be A Midsummer Nights Dream!
