Ramsgate's Maritime Museum is back!

Ramsgate's Maritime Museum is back!

Great news for our town this month as Ramsgate’s Maritime Museum doors opened in time for The May Day Bank Holiday. The museum, now run by The Steam Museum Trust, plans to be open for all the Bank Holidays and will also be open for 6 days a week throughout the school summer break.  The museum entry is free and there is a small fee (£1 for kids) to go aboard the last surviving sea-faring steam tug, Cervia (try saying that when you have a lisp like me!).

If you want to know more about the museum’s opening times and events click on the following link www.thesteammuseum.org.  Cervia and Sundowner (one of the many little ships that was involved in the Dunkirk rescue) have amazing histories and if you click on this next link it will give you an idea of the restoration project that Cervia has undergone www.thesteammuseum.org/cervia.html

Sundowner’s previous owner, Charles Lightoller has a life story that, as one of my guests said last week, would rival any Hollywood Blockbuster.  If you want to know more, you’ll just have to get down to Ramsgate Harbour. .
