Fairtrade is now a Billion Pound Industry

Britain is the world's largest customer when it comes to Fairtrade and figures released on monday 28th February show that the UK spent over £1.1billion last year on Fairtrade products - up from £836 million the previous year.  These figures are great news for the growing number of Fairtrade farmers and workers who depend on this initiative to help ensure a better future for themsleves and their families.

At our B&B we have added to our Fairtrade products on a regular basis and it's much easier to source Fairtrade products now than it was when we first started trading in 2006.  In our rooms for example, guests can choose from Fairtrade green tea, lemon tea, peppermint tea, camomile tea and ofcourse black tea.  Fairtrade decaff and caffeinated coffee along with Fairtrade brown and white sugar are also provided and the most popular choice is our Fairtrade Hot Chocolate.

This week marks the beginning of Fairtrade Fortnight which continues until 13th March and Thanet's Fairtrade Inititative is holding local events to celebrate - click on the Fairtrade link on the right hand side to find out more.
